I am finding that grip strength is directly correlated with overall strength and power.  Think about it, you are not going to find a weak dude with bone crushing grip and vice versa.  When grip strength is at its highest, I guarantee that your strength will be at a peak as well.  Grip strength is closely linked to the CNS and the power output of the CNS.  A weak grip is often the limiting factor in lifting heavy weight.  The hands also have many nerve endings, again showing the close link between the CNS and grip strength.  Some of my favorite things to do for grip strength:

  • plate pinches for time
  • heavy db or bb holds
  • fat grip barbell holds
  • wheel of death
  • sand bag holds
  • fat grip db work
