HOW MUCH PROTIEN???

Protien holds a mythical stature amongt athletes and hard-core trainees.  And there is good reason for this, the body cannot survive without protein.  There are essential amino acids (EAA, proteins) that the body cannot make in large enough quantities for survival.  However, there is no such thing as an essential carbohydrate.  Anyway, one of the oldest myths in nutrition is the one that says you can only absorb so much protein at one meal.  Studies have found that there is an optimal intake for protein synthesis of roughly 30 grams per meal, but it did not show that any extra was going to waste.  This study was also done on individuals that did not train.  “The body appears to increase both the rate of gastric emptying and nutrient absorption in response to increased nutrient intakes and it seems highly unlikely that any single fixed amount of protien could possibly apply to all individuals regardless of body size, activity or habitual protein intake,” (McDondal, 2007).  There you have it, problem solved, eat good quality sources of protien and plenty of it.
