One of the key indicators of how explosive an athlete can become is how efficient their nervous system is.  The more efficient and explosive nervous system is capable of more powerful movements, lifting heavier weights and having a rapid rate of force development (RFD).  Two easy ways for me to assess my athletes nervous system are how many foot taps they can get in a certain amount of time.  This basically means how many jumps during a series of pogo jumps for those of you that are familiar with my style.  Also, I will look at their personality.  The ones that have more of a temper and are a little hot headed usually have a more explosive nervous system.  A nervous system can be made to be more efficient and maximized through a properly designed strength and conditioning program.  -K
