7 notes
I was driving out yesterday with Devon to see my aunt and uncle and naturally, we were listening to some radio on the way out. (I usually listen to talk radio and audio books, but I had to be a good husband:)). I got to thinking about how many different types of music there are and the vast diversity from one station to the next. People that make music are artists, they create out of nothing. I have always admired musicians for their ability to do their own thing and be unique. The ones that try to copy others are usually the ones that have no staying power.
Here is the interesting thing…there are only 7 different notes in music, thats it. Think about that for a moment. How can so many different types of music come from only 7 different notes? Musicians have to work with what they already have, they can’t go out and make more notes. You have to be sure to do the same thing if you want to achieve a fulfilling life. Too many times, people are waiting for something else before they create or act. You need to use the gifts you have and make something out of them. You will be forced to be more creative if you rely on your natural talents and the process will be much more unique to you. People often ask me how I think of so many different topics to write about or talk about, and my response is that I am just being who I am, thinking about the things I think about and not waiting until some ‘other’ way of thinking comes to me.
As a little extra, think about music notes and how this can relate to your workouts. You can literally develop millions of workouts from only 7 basic principles. If you can apply these principles in the correct way, you will have a lasting and effective program that keeps you mentally engaged.

FORCED CREATION AND THE HAMMIES
I have been trying a new technique while I teach my little students every day. I pick out a few pieces of equipment, nothing fancy, stuff like tennis balls and hula hoops and I see how many different games I can come up with for about 1 to 2 weeks. If I just sat there and tried to think of something, it would be difficult and take up too much time. I put myself in the situation and the mind automatically creates. And I have to say that the games have been kick ass. I work the kids out hard and we play new games. You can take this same idea into your workouts. Just pick a few pieces of equipment, head outside on a nice day and go at it.
The hamstrings are a fast twitch muscle group, meaning they should not be trained with high reps and light weight. The hamstrings must be trained hard and heavy. The two functions of the hamstrings are to flex the knee and extend the hip. The latter is far more important to sport and muscle growth. I would focus two to three exercises on the hip extension versus every one that focuses on knee flexion. If you don’t have a leg curl machine, no worries, I don’t have one either. You can do glute bridges, TRX leg curls and stability ball leg curls to name a few. Put it to use, peace-Kyle
