Listen up, I am going to bring something to you attention.
Recently, I saw a post of a young trainer, shirtless, abs showing, selfie style.
The fitness field is full of young people that have been blessed with low body fat.
They don’t have to pay much attention to what they eat or they eat ‘clean’, following the typical North American Diet herd and they train, but the training is nothing more really than a moderate intensity workout really aimed at allowing them to look at themselves in the mirror for a period of time from different angles.
What’s the point of saying this?
I’ve come across more of these types than I can count and they assume that because they had the right parents, they can then serve as a fitness trainer.
When their ways don’t work with clients, it must be the clients fault, of course.
Or, they just throw more ignorance and volume at the said client, cut some more calories, and hope for the best.
These ‘fake fitness experts’ aren’t really there to serve, anyone but themselves, that is.
There is a reason the best players in any sport, rarely, if ever, make a great Coach.
And that reason is because they can’t explain how they do a lot of what they do, it’s simply a gift.
To use the pro sports analogy, 99% of the time, the best Coaches were mediocre players at best.
It’s these types that are driven to study and acquire real expertise, not surface level expertise.
Coaching is about wisdom, which comes from knowledge and experience, plus knowing how the mind works and more specifically, how a specific client’s mind works.
Don’t fall for the fools gold of a trainer’s selfie, showing you their abs.
All that is really saying is, ‘Look at me. It’s about me. And if you hire me, I can maybe make you look like me’.
Sounds ridiculous, because it is ridiculous.
You’ve been warned.
