Sunny and Smoked Workout

We had a great trip out to Kentucky last week with the boys, visiting my aunt and uncle.

On our first full day there, we spent about 6 hours out in the sun at different parks, playgrounds and splash pads for the boys.

We never thought we’d be there for that long, but when fun is being had, you just have to go with it.

I had planned on going to my friend’s gym in Cincinnati a little earlier in the day and he was expecting me.

Nonetheless, I went left for the 30 minute drive to his gym in my uncle’s pickup truck around 6 pm.

I was at capacity with a few stressors, not bad, but stressors: the day of travel the day before, a day in the sun and a new environment for us and the boys (remember that environment changes are always stressful, no matter whom you are).

However, I knew that to stay on track, I had to stick to my commitment to get my workout in. Part of the F-5 system I follow on the daily involves a fitness goal of getting a half a gallon of water per day at minimum and a good sweat.

Well, I got to John’s gym, warmed up and proceeded to have a mediocre workout at best. It had nothing to the with the gym, but rather that I was smoked. Back in the day, I would have tried to push through it. Now that I am wiser, on those types of days, I lighten the load and just have a goal of making it through the next set.

You can’t always have the best workout of your life.

And if that’s the case, you need to examine what the point of your workout routine is. Remember why you are following this fitness quest and stick with it. Is it to become a workout warrior or to enhance your life? And if so, what parts of your life?
