I use something called β€˜reality math’ first and foremost when I am on my quest for learning and education.


Nothing beats real world experience and results.


I’ve been harping on now for 7 years that weight loss and muscle building is more about the hormones of your body than anything else.


Yet, so many can’t overcome the strong tide of β€˜calories in, calories out’.


Here are a few simple instances of hormones running the show…


-What causes one to overeat with stress eating? Is it the calories that cause you to eat too much or eat foods that don’t serve the body? Nope, it’s hormones and a desire for the body to get out of the stressed state, so it turns to food as a drug to have a calming effect. Stress causes hormones to spike, that the body doesn’t find all that pleasant so it looks for something to soothe it and bam, stress eating.


-Speaking of stress eating, cortisol, your main alertness hormone, can be used to build or to burn. When we are in a rested state and sleeping well, cortisol will help to burn body fat. When we are in a fatigued and stressed state, cortisol will cause us to gain fat. Two different effects, same hormone.


-What causes kids to grow? The calories they eat? Nope. It’s growth hormone. Growth hormone and growth rate will determine appetite. For kids, growth hormone makes them grow taller, for adults, insulin makes us grow wider.


-Lastly, if you wanted to know the one thing that you should add in now if leaning up for the summer was your goal, I’d unequivocally say β€˜better and/or more sleep’. Why? Because it regulates all hormones and stress responses within the body.


There you go, a little reality math for you.
