Before I begin to explain the drug aspect of food to you, step back for a moment and look at how uncommon common sense is these days.
Has everyone lost their mind?
But it is all for the simple fact that most people allow their emotions to drive their actions and they allow their emotions to drive their thoughts.
Yes, logical, forward, linear thought is a different part of the brain than the emotion centers and logic and emotion largely oppose each other when it comes to thought patterns.
I tell you this because I see it every week in terms of people thinking that they cannot fast because they don’t like the feeling of feeling hungry.
Well, I got news for you.
Hunger is a feeling and it drives an emotional attachment to your favorite foods.
Think about any type of substance addict, when their chemistry comes down from a high or a buzz, what do they want more than anything?
For the majority of the population, food is the drug of choice.
And no matter how many times I say it, I can’t see it often enough: food is a drug.
It affects the internal, biochemical and hormonal environment of the body (the very definition of a drug).
When you feel hunger, its actually a good thing. First, you can reframe that feeling as ‘that’s what fat loss feels like’ and know that your body will correct itself the longer you stick with fasting.
Yes, those hunger pangs and hunger hormones will continue to decline the longer you fast.
Whereas the typical N.A.D. (North American Diet) has the opposite effect.
All that body fat that you are carrying around is there to be used as a food and fuel source, but if you eat every time you feel a little bit of hunger, you give the body no reason to tap into those fat stores.
Think of hunger as an emotional state, put it in its place.
I’ll continue this piece next week with the ‘Champion’s Mind-set’ when it comes to eating and fasting.
Too much in one piece and your brain will shut down and you won’t connect the dots, which is what it is all about after all (Mind Mapping).
