𝕎𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝔸𝕣𝕖 𝕥𝕙𝕖 𝔹𝕖𝕟𝕖𝕗𝕚𝕥𝕤 𝕠𝕗 ℙ𝕒𝕟𝕕𝕒 𝔽𝕒𝕤𝕥𝕚𝕟𝕘?
I remember back when I first came upon fasting in 2014 (yes, I’ve been doing it that long).
I had heard of it but it wasn’t something I was ready to embrace nor did it have much of a following at that point.
I had bought into all the myths that still abound: you’ll go into starvation mode, you’ll lose muscle and on and on.
The only reason that I decided to give it a try was because I was getting ready for 2 more bodybuilding contests and I wanted to be the most ripped that I had ever been.
In my constant quest for knowledge, as I was researching and reading more, I read about how our stubborn fat cells have a different type of receptor. These receptors have a very poor blood supply, which makes it almost impossible to lose fat in those areas.
Lo and behold, one of the only ways to increase the blood flow to those areas is through fasting.
And as the old saying goes, ‘When the student is ready, the teacher will appear’, I was ready and despite shunning fasting previously, I dove in.
Make no mistake, my only reason at that point was purely cosmetic. I wanted to drop body fat.
But within a week, I started to notice other things.
For one, my hunger was much more manageable. This was a HUGE thing because when you are doing something to such an extreme level such as bodybuilding, the biggest obstacle is managing your hunger.
There had been previous contest preparations where I literally broke down in tears because of how hungry I was, no joke.
Then, within a few more weeks, I noticed that I was able to come off HCL (hydrochloric acid), which is one of the main digestive enzymes, which is often deficient due to stress. This meant that my digestive process was reaping benefits too.
And that led me further down the path of research.
Anyways, here is a quick hitting list of 5 of the many of the benefits of Panda Fasting. Yes, there is a distinction in my humble but accurate opinion. Most people speak of intermittent fasting in terms of a 16:8 protocol, a 16 hour fast followed by an 8-hour eating window. While that is better than eating the typical North American diet, it’s not really going to move the needle for most people in terms of weight loss nor get you the other sought-after health benefits.
Autophagy: This is basically a cellular cleansing and clipping off of damaged parts of cells. This can only happen in an extended period of time without calories. This has a compounding effect and from my research will only begin once you start getting into the 24-hour fasting and beyond.
Reduced inflammation: This goes hand in hand with insulin resistance. Inflammation and insulin resistance are the root of nearly every disease. If you reduce insulin output over time and become more insulin sensitive, you also reduce your level of inflammation.
Decreased Hunger: Hunger is the main reason the typical North American diet strategies fail. As you continue to cut calories, your main hunger hormones continue to rise. It’s only a matter of time before your willpower fails you. When you do Panda type fasting, your main hunger hormones continue to go down over time.
Brain Function: Contrary to popular belief, brain function will improve with longer form fasting, not decline. This is because of the nice levels of adrenaline, cortisol (both alertness hormones), potentially the brain running off ketones for a period of time and something called BDNF. BDNF is like fertilizer for your brain neurons and synapse and was previously believed to only increase through exercise, but has been proven to increase with longer form fasting as well.
Permanent Weight Loss: The main reason people come to me for fasting is because of a desire to drop weight. They continue to suffer through the North American diets that leave them feeling like a failure with no long-term weight loss to show for it. With Panda fasting, the weight will leave and never come back and it continues to have a compounding effect. This is assuming you stick with it, which is a main part of how I designed the Panda Diet (with Mind Mapping principles infused throughout).
