I have been reflecting a lot lately as I mature into my manhood.

As I have stated many times throughout the past year, I think I am finally starting to figure this thing out.

And by thing, I mean life as a dad, as a husband, as a man.

I went through the warrior phase of life during my 20โ€™s and 30โ€™s, using brute physical force both in the gym and to build Newell Strength. I thought I was a man at that point, and make no doubt about it, physically I was.

But no one ever tells you that as a man, life is a constant struggle. I am sure itโ€™s this way for momโ€™s too, from what I can tell with conversations and growing up together with Devon, but as a dad, we need to embrace this fact of life.

Struggling is not a bad thing.

Struggling is how we grow our wings. It is an essential piece of life that allows us to fully mature to whatever level we are supposed to reach in this lifetime.

Life is dominated by long stretches of struggling interspersed with short periods of peace.

Now, when I say peace, I donโ€™t mean inner peace. Inner peace can only exist when we are at peace with this flow of life.

What I am referring to is peace of mind.

Life isnโ€™t supposed to be all full of roses, nor are we supposed to be happy all the time. If we were, we would cease to appreciate happiness.

Happiness is a drug and like all drugs, it will lose its effect over time if we are constantly using โ€˜itโ€™.

As a dad, you are going to be beaten down by things you fail at, over and over and over again.

You are going to fall short.

You are going to figure things out and then bam, you will face more resistance.

But go back to the #1 skill that I teach, reframing. All the resistance you face on a day to day basis is nothing more than mental and spiritual resistance training.

You know the importance of physical resistance training, so make yourself know the importance of this type of training.

Life is about the mind-body-spirit triangle.

Life is about growth.

Growth only comes through learning.

Struggling is the ultimate form of learning.

Rock on Ripped Dad.
