Earning Your Mental Stripes with Mind Map

Last Saturday, I went for a walk.

It was after our weekly Saturday morning workout and it was with a longtime client and friend.

Sometimes, when I am in the midst of a Mind Map session, I wish I could hit the record button because that’s when most of the dots seem to connect for me as a Coach.

Anyhows, you need to realize a few things if you want to step your mental game up.

Firstly, you need to train your mind just like you train your body. You need reps, you need quality input, you need rest and the list goes on.

Most people just assume that their mind is their mind and well, that’s all there is to it.

Nope, not for me and my compadres.

Your mind must be pushed to its limits and you need to earn your stripes.

Just like in BJJ, where I have been advancing through the white belt progressions, the same must be done with your mental game.

I’d say pretty much all of the most successful people I know are constantly working on mindset and have already put in a lot of time into growing their mind.

Aim to attain mental mastery.

Secondly, and I cannot recall if I’ve written about this recently because I write so darned much (much of what I write I forget, nor every look back upon) is the concept of time.

Two of the most damning energies you can allow your mind, body and spirit to latch onto are anger and fear.

I think you’d agree to that.

Well, know this and then read it again, don’t allow the simplicity to fool you.

All feelings of anger arise from the past. Don’t believe me? Think about it, you cannot be angry in the future and any anger that rises to the surface is from thoughts about the past.

Something that someone did to you or something along those lines. Many times, you project that memory into the present moment and it causes anger to arise.

It’s true, you’ll see.

All fear is a projection into the future, a future that exists only in your mind. Yes, it is never the future, it is only ever the NOW.

So, the two most damning emotions that affect all three sides of the triangle are emotions that cannot exist in the present moment, that is, if your mind is truly present and not projecting.

Having this insight can get you out of the ruts of despair, when you are in your head.

Study your mind, know how the mind works to some degree and grow from there.
