Know Your Own Definition
As of this past year, I feel like I am finally coming to truly know and be aware of what it means to be a father and a man.
Yes, I know when a guy turns 18 or 21, most consider him a man and physically, he is. But he is not really a man.
Knowing what it means to be a man can only come about with time, usually this doesn’t happen until later in your 4th or 5th decade of life.
On our drive down to Florida, while the kids were napping, Devon and I were chatting about this. I listed 7 or 8 traits that I believe ALL men should have some working knowledge of. There are at least two on that list that I am piss poor in and need to work on, so that I am.
It got me thinking about which guys in my life I admire most and look up to most and it just so happened to be the ones that checked all those boxes in some capacity.
I believe that is at this stage of life that most men go through a midlife crisis, simply because they are unaware of what is actually going on. Their crisis serves as a nice distraction, but once that novelty wears off, its back to that inner desire calling you to fulfill your life’s purpose.
Anyways, the point being, you need to take time to develop your own definitions of success, happiness, health, motherhood, etc., otherwise you’ll be trying to live for other people’s definitions, which most likely don’t align with yours.
