Skiing, Skating, and the Spine

I grew up playing the more traditional sports such as soccer, basketball and baseball.


Land sports as I like to call them.


Devon grew up doing more skiing and skating.


You see, I was never allowed to do those things because they were winter sports and that was prime time with basketball for me.


And skills are harder to learn as an adult than as a kid.


Well, in the past few weeks, we’ve been roller skating, ice skating and skiing.


All things that made me feel a little angst. Why?


Because I like to be stable. In getting to know myself, I realize that is my main issue with heights.


When our spines are stable, we have much more strength and power available to us. Try throwing a punch or a baseball on ice. See how much power is behind it.


Learn how to stabilize your spine and you instantly become stronger.


This is one of the many things that we focus on in our training at Newell Strength. It’s not just ground and pound and move until you fatigue (any trainer can do those things).
