Suzy Get Spoiled
Two Fridays ago, we had a nice date night planned.
We had the sitter all lined up, we had a nice little cozy restaurant to go to and a movie date the local winery right after dinner.
We were having some good conversation when the urge to pee hit me, so I excused myself from the table and as I was getting up, my elbow struck my wine glass.
In an instant, Suzy Homemaker was soaked in red wine.
We cleaned up the spilt mess and then excused herself to go dry off.
It was in that moment that I knew what happened next would determine how the rest of the night would go. Would Suzy react and be annoyed? She had the reason to be.
Or would she respond.
She chose the latter (response is a choice, reaction is not). Suzy came back to the table and was joking about the situation. We even had a nice banter going on with the table next to us about it.
Dinner ran long and we weren’t in a rush. No hurries and no worries.
We didn’t try to speed dinner, we simply enjoyed it and realized the winery would have to wait until a later date.
In every situation, take a breath before moving, or take two if you need it.
There is a BIG difference between reaction and response.
