Taken to School
A few weeks ago, I was at my Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu lesson and recognized a new guy there.
He was hard to miss since he was a physically large man.
Turns out he is 6’3” and 260 pounds.
How do I know?
Because the Professor paired us up together.
And I knew right away that I was grappling with someone that had extensive knowledge of martial arts.
I also knew that he wasn’t your average Joe.
I later found out that is a South African heavyweight Judo Olympian not to mention fairly advanced in BJJ.
Took me to school he did, in a good way. He taught me, he broke down the steps in fined detail and was very patient. You could tell that he was a student of life.
When it came time to do live rolling, I was able to hold my own because of my strength and that got us to talking about strength training and he and his son coming to the Flemington Newell Strength to try a session. Not surprising that he is a man of fast action.
Success leaves clues.
You never know when you might me someone that is world class at what they do and when you do, take notes, copy what is useful and discard the rest.
Be unconventional - Kyle Newell
