The Key to Being Present

Two weeks ago today, Devon embarked on a weekend getaway with her college girlfriend down in West Virginia.


She had it planned for a while and we both were looking forward to it.


Yes, I know that may sound odd for some Dads, but I knew that it was just going to be and the kids, for 3 plus, full days.


We had a blast, so many great memories and fun times.


The key, as I have learned through failure over time, was keeping my schedule clear of any non-family stuff for those few days.


I wasn’t working on business stuff or fielding phone calls.


It was just the kids and my full, undivided attention.


The key to being present is making sure you only have one thing to focus on; the thing that is right in front of you.


If you focus on two things at once, you focus on neither.
